Minimize the Appearance of Blemishes with Laser Facial Resurfacing

Laser facial resurfacing

Blemishes such as acne scars, age spots and freckles often become much more pronounced as we enter into our mature adult years. These visible signs of aging can be minimized through cosmetic procedures like laser facial resurfacing. Energy from lasers can remove the upper layer of skin and stimulate increased collagen production. The result is healthier skin growth and a diminishing of most forms of discolorations.

Laser facial resurfacing is a popular cosmetic treatment because it doesn’t involve skin repositioning or chemical peeling. We encourage our clients to learn more about how this simple, in-house procedure can turn back the clock and restore the face to its more youthful appearance.

What Laser Facial Resurfacing Treats

Most of our clients come to us with concerns about facial skin problems caused by aging and environmental factors. The most common problems are fine line wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, age spots and liver spots, enlarged and darkened freckles, scars and other blemishes. Laser facial resurfacing can treat all of these problems merely by subjecting the damaged tissue to light waves.

How Laser Facial Resurfacing Works

Before we decide to perform this procedure, we consult with the client and examine the trouble spots closely. Laser resurfacing is an efficient treatment for skin discolorations so long as the darkened areas are close to the surface. Deeper scarring may require another procedure instead.

The instrument used in laser resurfacing is a special device that produces a single wavelength. The beam of light is tightly focused, meaning that all of the light is traveling in one direction only. This allows all of the energy to be focused on a small area of the skin. Very short pulses of light emitted from the laser instrument remove the epidermis and heat up the lower dermal layers.

On the day of the procedure, we will cleanse the face thoroughly and give the client protective eye shades to wear during the treatment. We calibrate the laser instrument to a specific wavelength. This energy output depends on the actual color tone of the problem skin.

What Happens Afterward?

After your laser facial resurfacing treatment, the skin will be a bit sensitive, so staying out of the sun for several days is encouraged. Over the next month or so, increased collagen production results in clearer, more even-toned skin. Although it’s not a permanent solution for skin discolorations, results often last for quite a long time.
